OTHER APPS

When using other apps that are commonly found on the Apple Store and Android Store, the “encrypted” data you send is only encrypted to the server. What happens to the data while it’s on that server is entirely unknown. Do they store the message decrypted? Do they send it to the Feds? You cannot know that information. Because we own and run our server, we know exactly what happens to that data and it is encrypted. Even if we lost control of our server, the messages that are stored can only be decrypted by the recipients of the message. Even if it is sent to a chat room, that chat room’s key is only stored in MEMORY, meaning the moment the server goes offline, the keys are destroyed.

Get Started With Element

Let’s get you started by downloading the Element client!

Once you’re done…

Simply change the homeserver to secure.tarheel.media and register for a new account!
Again, change the home server FIRST by clicking the existing homeserver link matrix.org.

How It Works

CLIENT

The client is called “Element” and looks very much like “Discord” which is a gamer’s favorite for ease of use and it’s versatility for communications in both text, audio, and video.

Element interprets data from a connected “Matrix” server via SSL (https).

SERVER

The server is hosted in 2 areas, North Carolina and in Michigan through cloud hosting technology which is run by the leader’s company. This server runs “Matrix”, a cryto-graphic chat service that allows for end-to-end encryption.

This ensures that only the person who a message is intended for can actually read it.

NETWORK

Matrix allows for a federation of servers. This system is called “Synapse” which allows for SSL (https) communications between multiple servers for secure relaying of data.

That means, other militias can get permission from us to federate their servers with our server for secure inter-militia communications.
